Who’s behind Porch Light?
Gray here! 👋🏻 I am a white-privileged, queer, and trans peer support coach. I started Porch Light to help fill the access gap many members of the queer community face when seeking mental health support.
I was raised in the south and came to Baltimore by way of D.C. I love Charm City, its communities, and all creatures big and small (or critters as I call ‘em). My dog and two cats are family. In addition to Porch Light, I get to explore Charm City while dog-walking and taking local gig work when I can.

Q: What is peer support, and how is it different from therapy?
A: Peer support is a therapeutic coaching space we create together. As a peer support coach, I'm here to listen, reflect with you, and share and learn from lived experiences.
Peer support is different from therapy because it starts on even footing. I am not a licensed therapist, so I'm empowered to support my clients as a peer with lived experience and as an abolitionist. As a white-privileged member of the queer and trans community, I oppose law enforcement involvement and involuntary confinement as mental health solutions.
Q: Why does an abolitionist approach to mental health matter?
A: I believe safety planning is only effective when it accounts for and avoids state violence—especially for BIPOC and multiply marginalized individuals. Working as a peer support coach enables me to recommend care resources and networks that exist outside harmful institutions.
Safety planning among peers is one of the highest priorities for my practice, particularly for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Because my practice is virtual, I take care to begin peer safety planning with all new clients and include resources local to them for in-person support.
Q: What can I talk about in peer support?
A: Anything and everything. Porch Light is a non-judgmental space for whatever is on your mind.
